Overview

The Sr. Manager of Merchant Import Operations is responsible for overseeing the flow of imported merchandise to ensure maximum service efficiency, optimal routing and cost reductions. This role is highly collaborative with freight forwarder and their origin offices, ocean carriers, transload providers, Intermodal providers and drayage companies to create a seamless import transportation operations and alignment with company’s objectives. Additionally, the Sr. Manager will provide leadership to his/her direct reports and support leadership by providing detailed analytical reporting. This position is highly cross-functional with Kirkland’s distribution centers, Global Sourcing, Suppliers and IT teams.

Responsibilities

  • Import operations management: Lead and implement import strategies in line with the company goals, ensuring optimal routing and cost efficiency for international transportation.
  • Contract Procurement and Negotiation: Engage with and secure freight forwarder, ocean carrier, and transload services through strategic contract negotiations to drive cost efficiencies and service consistency.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary liaison between all import services providers to ensure clear communication and smooth operation flow.
  • Collaboration with Supply chain distribution and Global Sourcing: Work closely with the GS and warehouse teams to align the logistics needs and anticipate and address labor and operational needs.
  • SOP and Compliance: Establish and manage SOP’s and ensure compliance with PO management standards. Maintain vendor compliance guide and uphold data integrity within the WMS.
  • Team leadership and development: Provide direction, mentorship and development opportunities to direct reports, fostering a high-performing team culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with +10 or more years of experience in Ocean importing. Transload background is a plus.
  • Detail oriented, able to respond to rapidly changing priorities, organizational and follow up skills, strong analytical aptitude
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both internationally and domestically.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key supply chain/transportation processes and current best practices
  • Extensive experience in contact management and procurement and managing relationships with international service providers.
  • Advanced in use of Microsoft office suite and power BI.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to travel up to 30% as needed domestically, 10% internationally.
