Overview

The Graphic Designer, reporting directly to the Graphic Design Lead is responsible for ensuring consistent, on-brand designs. This role collaborates closely with various teams, including Marketing, Merchandising/Sales, Visual Merchandising, and Store Operations. Projects range from simple to highly complex visual assets and projects. The ideal candidate is skilled and passionate about design, photography, and type hierarchies and is comfortable working with precise technical specifications regarding image usage, media, file formats, file sizes, and copy styling. Meticulous organization, file management, comfort in a fast-paced environment, and self-motivation are key in being successful in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Supports direction of Graphic Design Lead to execute creative design that aligns to our brand
  • Works closely with the Marketing team to learn and understand Kirkland’s brand guidelines
  • Ideate, design, and create visual assets for emails, digital ads, social media, mailers, store collateral, some video, and other visual initiatives
  • Uses Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat) daily
  • Ability to use Adobe Photoshop to create animated GIFs for web and email (motion graphics)
  • Knowledge of Image Resolution and File Formats for both digital and print graphics
  • Excellent File Management & Organization of assets
  • Must be able to work in a fast past environment while working on several projects
  • Time management skills are a must in addition to knowing how to prioritize
  • Participate in creative meetings for overall branding strategies
  • Demonstrates a commitment to Kirkland’s Values and ways of working
  • Desire to collaborate cross functionally with Sales, Vendors, and other internal teams
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Up to 2 years’ experience in a similar role, within a retail environment preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat)
  • Portfolio examples of web design work required
  • Associates, BA, or BS Degree in Fine & Applied Arts; Graphic Design; Communication Arts or equivalent required
  • Understands grid systems and design fundamentals
  • Keen eye for typography, print, digital, branding, detail and conceptualization
  • Color Theory, Layout Principals, Photo Editing
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Effective communicator (both verbally and written)
  • Ability to multi-task and move among several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • UX/UI design principles preferred
  • Knowledge of iMovie, After effects, Premiere Pro a plus (basic video editing)
  • Ability to perform work onsite at Brentwood corporate office at least 4 days a week
  • Proficient in MAC operating system
  • Proficient in marketing projects management and collaboration tools: Teams, Slack, Trello
  • Stays current with design trends
  • Basic HTML/CSS a plusBasic digital design fundamentals: digital web, email, SMS, display.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time
